Dear No Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto,

You are not alone in your fears.  AI is certainly gaining ground not only in the manufacturing sector, as they have been for years, but in the field of service now as well.  Automation has the potential to change the way we do business on every level of society.  Who is to say that a robot couldn't be taught to smell and taste wine, deciphering soil types and varietals by the chemical compounds present in any given glass of liquid?   And at the very least retrieve, open, and pour a bottle?

However I do think the Sommelier Position is one that can withstand the onslaught for the foreseeable future.  It seems as though diners still enjoy the excitement of human interaction and contact.  That's our edge!

Dear No Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto,

If the "excitement of human interaction and contact" is our last remaining edge over a Robot Somm Apocalypse, I'd say we're DOOMED!  Judging by the many aloof and indifferent Sommeliers I've encountered recently, we'd better pray a Guaranteed Minimum Income system of social welfare is established in the country quicker than a Champagne cork goes POP!
